Unsignal
by Joe Moran
Tues 22 - Weds 23 June, 8pm
The Place, London
Dance Art Foundation Artistic Director Joe Moran presents Unsignal, a new quartet for leading UK dance artists Marina Collard, Annie Lok, Lauren Potter and Sasha Roubicek.
In March 2010, Moran invited artists and thinkers across the world to contribute extracts of written texts that tackle conceptual, theoretical and poetic ideas. Moran and his collaborators have drawn upon these texts as scores for performance, engaging in the physicality of ideas and creating a new work imbued with a density of conflated, jostling and approximate meanings.
Contributors include: Aladin (UK), Henrietta Bannerman (UK), Frank Bock (UK), Mary Chamberlain (UK), Rachel Lois Clapham (UK), Augusto Corrieri (UK), Charlotte Darbyshire (UK), Ben Evans (USA/France), Jesse Aron Green (USA), Paul Halferty (Canada), Ray Jacobs (UK), Bojana Kunst (Slovenia), Julie Mayo (USA), Tim Miller (USA), Joe Moran (UK), Julie Nathanielsz (UK), Yvonne Ng (Canada), Betty Nigianni (UK), Stina Nyberg (The Netherlands), Florence Peake (UK), Niki Pollard (UK), Zoë Poluch (The Netherlands), Helen Poynor (UK), Alexandra Russ (Australia/Spain), Stephanie Skura (USA), Sarah Whatley (UK) and Martin Welton (UK).

Map and directions
Unsignal is presented as part of a triple bill of new works from postgraduate choreography at London Contemporary Dance School, a programme that supports new directions in the work of experienced choreographers.
Joe Moran is a London-based dance artist and Artistic Director of Dance Art Foundation. He creates dance and video works for theatre, galleries and public spaces. This Spring, Joe convened Score for 30 Dancers, a closely ‘scored’ improvisational dance at Christ Church Spitalfields, performed by 30 of the UK’s finest dance artists. He is currently touring his adaptation of At Once, the new solo by iconoclastic American choreographer Deborah Hay. As a dancer, Joe has worked with a number of distinguished choreographers including Deborah Hay, Siobhan Davies (Bank project), Stephanie Skura, Kate Brown, Florence Peake, Gaby Agis (company dancer 2001-2005) and Christopher House (Toronto Dance Theatre), as well as visual artists Magali Reus and Shaan Syed. Joe recently choreographed Background, a film by Magali Reus (IBID Projects, London; La Salles des Bains, Lyon) and has curated dance at the National Portrait Gallery, Toynbee Studios and Canary Wharf tube station.
