At Once is the new solo by iconoclastic American choreographer Deborah Hay, founder of the Judson Church Theatre in New York and widely acknowledged as one of the most influential representatives of postmodern dance.
In August 2009, UK dance artist Joe Moran worked with Deborah Hay and 20 dancers from across the world to learn this new piece. Over an intensive three-month period of daily practice, Moran has adapted his performance of Hay’s highly specific choreographic instructions into an entirely individual new work.
At Once challenges Moran, and his audience, with movement concepts that are both demanding and liberating, triggering multiple levels of perception at once.
