MAKE | Florence Peake | Associated Events | Partners
MAKE extends Peake's interests in the performative nature of making object-based artwork, particularly sculpture. It is also informed by a growing interest in Minimalism and Conceptual art movements and in the 'great' masculine heroes of these canons, Richard Serra, Donald Judd, Carl Andre. MAKE will play with the traditional reverence towards and god-like status of the artist/sculptor as author, deconstructing its status while the actions and processes that accumulate and manifest within a sculpture are interrogated and exposed.
Please note this event will start at 5pm at Longside Gallery. Longside is based 2km from the YSP Centre. There are two walking routes to Longside Gallery, via Cascade Bridge or via Oxley Bank. Please allow 45 minutes for the walk. |
MAKE is the result of a 2010 collaboration between the Live Art Development Agency and Yorkshire Sculpture Park, conceived by artist Joshua Soafar. The performance will be preceded by impromptu happenings in the landscape during the day and two development workshops Materials for Making offered as part of Dance Art Foundation’s New Choreography Project.
